The Andrology department at Hammersmith Hospital, is an internationally recognised centre in the diagnosis, treatment and conduct of research on male infertility. It is part of the North West London Pathology, Blood Sciences Specialist Service and forms part of the European Academy of Andrology (EAA)-accredited centre at Imperial. Dr. Channa Jayasena PhD MRCP FRCPath is a Consultant and Head of Andrology.
In addition to WHO semen analysis to assess the number, motility and appearance of sperm in fresh ejaculate, we perform Post Vasectomy semen analysis. The department is one of the UKs largest providers of sperm freezing (cryopreservation) for men with cancer or other medical conditions at high risk of causing infertility. It is licenced by the Human Fertility & Embryology Authority (HFEA centre ref: 0080).
We work closely with the Wolfson Family Clinic at Hammersmith Hospital, and have established relationships with IVF units around the UK and rest of world. Shipment of samples for assisted reproductive technologies (ART) can be arranged. We also support the andrological surgical team led by Prof Minhas conducting microsurgical testicular sperm extraction (mTESE).
