Dr Arthi Anand
(she/her) Deputy Clinical Director
I am a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I), Department of Infection and Immunity Sciences, North West London Pathology (NWLP), Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT). My role involves overseeing testing in the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics laboratory and providing interpretation of results and associated scientific and clinical advice to support transplantation. In the last year, I have been privileged to take on the role of Deputy Clinical Director of NWLP, responsible for providing high-level strategic and clinical leadership to ensure that NWLP delivers high-quality patient care. This has been a rewarding opportunity to gain a pathology-wide perspective and contribute to shaping services across disciplines.
I am originally from India and completed my Masters in Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology, before moving to the UK to complete a doctoral degree in Immunology from University College London. I undertook postdoctoral research at Cancer Research UK before moving from “mouse to man” and retraining as a Clinical Scientist in H&I.
I am passionate about promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and have been an active participant in the RCPath Diversity Network since its inception in 2020, serving as one of the Race Equality Ambassadors within ICHT. My involvement in EDI stems in part from my personal experience of the challenges that can arise when you are from a different ethnic and cultural background, and also from my belief that a diverse and inclusive voice can be a powerful force, enabling positive change in all areas of working life. I have been fortunate to be able to pursue all my ambitions in my speciality and would like to contribute to efforts to make sure everyone feels they can be equally ambitious at the highest levels of their career.
I am currently Chair of the RCPath Specialist Advisory Group for H&I, a steering committee member for H&I UK NEQAS, and until recently served as the H&I Councillor for the British Transplant Society. I also serve on the editorial board of the Healthcare Science (HCS) Leadership Journal, which provides a high-level strategic discussion forum on healthcare policy, scientific leadership and horizon scanning of issues that may affect the whole of the healthcare science workforce. I have completed training as a professional coach and have a record of successfully supporting colleagues with career transitions and building confidence. Outside work, I enjoy reading, training as a black belt level Karateka, and nature walks.
