Tests available from GUM clinics
Isolation, identification and anti-microbial susceptibility testing of Neisseria gonorroheae Isolation of yeasts (speciation and anti-fungal susceptibility testing if clinically indicated) Isolation of Trichomonas vaginalis
Extra-genital swabs (rectal and throat);
Sup-prepuce swabs are occasionally submitted for candidiasis/balanitis in men.
Samples may be referred to the Sexually Transmitted Bacteria Reference Laboratory, Public Health England, for further investigation.
Please note that the laboratory is not accredited for Isolation of Trichomonas vaginalis

Additional tests may be added by discussion with the relevant laboratory. The time limit for adding additional tests to a sample already received in the laboratory will depend on the type of sample and the department it was sent to.

UKAS requires the laboratories to be accredited for a particular repertoire/scope (ISO15189), any changes or additions to repertoire require assessment by UKAS (extension to scope).
