Liver kidney stomach set

---|---|
Test background |
An antibody screen, including smooth muscle, gastric parietal cell, mitochondrial and LKM antibodies, by indirect immunofluorescence using mouse liver/kidney/stomach substrate. Positive samples are then confirmed by a secondary method. Smooth muscle antibodies at a high titre are associated with chronic active hepatitis, and at low titres are more likely to be triggered by infection. Mitochondrial antibodies are associated with primary biliary cirrhosis. Gastric parietal cell antibodies suggest pernicious anaemia (PA), atrophic gastritis; they are present in the early stages of PA, and frequently diminish with disease progression. |
