Scl-70 antibodies

Category Immunology
Test background

This test is only performed if the antinuclear antibody (ANA) screen is positive. The ENA screen includes antibodies to RNP, Sm, SS-A, SS-B, Scl-70 and Jo-1. If the ENA screen is positive then individual specificities will be checked and subsequently confirmed by immunoblot assay. Antibodies to DNA-topoisomerase (Scl-70) are found in patients with scleroderma (~25 %) and are usually associated with the progressive systemic sclerosis subset.
