Trace Elements

The Trace Element laboratory is a member of the Supra-Regional Assay Service. The service may be used by any external hospital, laboratory or other appropriate organisation. The laboratory is recognised by the Employment Medical Advisory Service (EMAS) for occupational lead monitoring.

The laboratory measures an extensive repertoire of trace elements routinely and is able to measure other elements on request. Information and advice (including discussion and interpretation of results) is available during working hours from Nick Martin, Consultant Clinical Scientist, as well as other staff members. The laboratory is involved in a variety of research and development projects, results of which are presented at relevant meetings and subsequently for publication and peer review.
