It is common practice in many transplant centres to confirm the ABO subtype donors as A1, A1B, A2 or A2B, prior to solid organ transplant. This is to prevent isoagglutinins that can react with the blood group antigens on the cells of the organ being transplanted.

Clinical Indications

Used in transplantation to detect minor subgroups of the A red cell antigen.
