Beta-hydroxybutyrate is a ketone body derived from fatty acid metabolism that accumulates in carbohydrate deficient states and in diabetic ketoacidosis.

Clinical Indications

Investigation of hypoglycaemia, in suspected fatty acid oxidation defects and ketoacidosis.
