Creatinine (urine)
Category | Biochemistry | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Test background |
Clearance of creatinine from the blood may be monitored as a function of glomerular filtration rate as creatinine is almost entirely filtered at the kidney (with the exception of that which is produced by the kidney). As such, comparison of serum and urine creatinine allows the assessment of renal (filtering) function and may be more accurate than the MDRD eGFR calculation (assuming adequate collection of urine). |
