Free fatty acids derived from triglyceride stores by lipolysis undergo mitochondrial beta-oxidation to provide up to 80 % of the total energy requirement during fasting.

Clinicial Indications

Investigation of hypoglycaemia and in suspected fatty acid oxidation defects.
