Test background |
This assay assesses T cell responses to a panel of mitogens and recall antigens. Profound loss of response to the lectin phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) is seen in severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) and some combined immune deficiency (CID). The assay is performed on whole blood or separated PBMC (peripheral blood mononuclear cells) if T cell counts are low. This assay measures the incorporation of radioactive tritiated thymidine into the DNA of proliferating cells following activation by mitogens or recall antigens. |
