Test background |
Platelet aggregation studies offer a qualitative assessment of platelet function in response to various agonists that stimulate platelet activation pathways. Platelet aggregation is rarely performed in isolation and is never used solely in the diagnosis of a bleeding disorder, rather it is interpreted in conjunction with other investigations such as Lumi Aggregation, PFA-100 testing and the clinical bleeding score. |
Clinical Indications |
Investigation of bleeding phenotype consistent with a possible platelet function disorder |
Reference range | For advice with interpretation please contact the lab or haematology clinical team. |
Sample & container required | 6-8 x 4.5 mL sodium citrate (pale blue top) adults 1.8 mL sodium citrate (pale blue top) paediatrics. Samples must be hand-delivered to laboratory as soon as possible, post from time of venepuncture to be viable for analysis. |
Turnaround time | 4 hours - Testing is performed on the day of blood sampling. For external users, reports will be available within 2 working days. |
