Red cell antibody identification

Once the presence of a clinically significant red cell antibody has been detected with the screening stage, further tests are required to determine the specificity of the antibody.

Clinical Indications

To identify the specificity of clinically significant red cell antibodies

Reference range

Negative (i.e. no circulating antibodies).

Sample & container required EDTA (lavender top)
Sample volume 4 mL for paediatrics 6 mL for adults
Turnaround time Dependent on clinical requirement. Contact the laboratory to discuss further.

May be referred to the NHS Blood and Transplant service for confirmation if necessary.
