Test background |
VWF Multimer Analysis is a second line test in the investigation of Von Willebrand Disease (VWD) and provides further information where the disease type or subtype is unclear. Multimer analysis is performed by SDS-PAGE gel electrophoresis, which allows for the visual assessment of various sizes of VWF multimers. Of particular clinical significance are the high molecular weight multimers, which possess significant haemostatic potential and where absent are suggestive of type II VWD. |
