Trained facilitators ensure the Round is a useful reflective practice. Often, attendees and panellists describe that Schwartz Rounds have helped them gain a better understanding of their colleagues, have increased their self-understanding, have allowed them to communicate more openly, and that their sense of isolation has been reduced.
Schwartz Rounds were developed in the USA to promote compassion in healthcare. Funding was provided by Kenneth Schwartz, a prominent lawyer who observed the personal side of the cancer staff looking after him before he died.
